Abstract:
This paper reports on past, present, and proposed future uses of pinus radiata poles, as structural elements, in New Zealand. Also, it briefly looks at the strength of the current crop of radiata poles and how it compares with trees grown 20 years ago. Poles, which are tree stems with their branches and bark removed, are a stable form of timber and, being less processed, have environmental and economic advantages.
