Abstract:
Biodiversity conservation strategies have evolved in recent years from a preoccupation with ‘fortress conservation’, separating people from ‘wild nature’, to initiatives that entwine society and ‘nature’ under the rubric of sustainable development. This paradigm shift poses both challenges and opportunities for protected area management, and prompts consideration of future policy directions for Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve, Qinghai Province, China.
