dc.description.abstract This paper discusses a research project with the Samoan community in Auckland, and the possibilities and challenges of adopting fa’asamoa protocols in the research. The paper is a personal narrative, which begins with a brief summary of the research topic, followed by a recount of the research journey with all its subsequent twists and turns. The narrative will summarise the challenges that I have encountered in pursuing a fa’asamoa approach to the research and suggest some ways forward in light of it. en
