Abstract:
This feature was designed to assist faculty in preparing effective program reports to meet the accreditation requirements for initial programs in physical education teacher education (PETE), set by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The six articles in this feature discuss statements of context, conceptual frameworks, rubrics, and data tables that form the basic criteria for teacher candidate performance. More specifically, they present an introduction and brief history of the NASPE/NCATE process, a review of the ten NASPE beginning teacher standards (NASPE, 2003), selection of appropriate assessments, development of effective and meaningful rubrics, suggestions about how to write an effective program report, and the view of the program review process through the eyes of the reviewer.
