dc.description.abstract In prior-to-school early childhood settings mathematical play can occur in a natural and unstructured manner. This paper describes the findings of a case study of children in an urban Auckland early childhood centre engaging in socio-dramatic play in the family corner. This data gives rise to the notion that foundational mathematical knowledge can, and does, develop in very young children. en
