dc.description.abstract This article examines the text of Sirach 38:1-15 within the context of Israel's health care system which up until this time gave little attention to physicians. It is argued that the influence of Egypt in the Hellenistic era in which Sirach was written may have effected this shift. Analysis of the text enables conclusions to be drawn about not only healing within Hellenistic Judaism but also its gendering. en
