Abstract:
On May 1, 2002, New Zealand became the first Commonwealth jurisdiction outside Canada to implement a personal property security regime derived from Article 9 of the American Uniform Commercial Code. This may be regarded as one of the success stories for Article 9 exports. Although, as this article demonstrates, the translation from North America to New Zealand has not been free from difficulty, the new regime has gained broad acceptance by interested parties.
