dc.description.abstract Translation of book title: Dialogue with Chekhov: Fetschsrift in Honor of V.B. Kataev. The title of this chapter (in translation 'Chekhov's Darling: A Story About Love of an Unstable Personality') is an allusion to Kataev's well-known essay on Chekhov's story ('Rasskaz o liubvi' - 'A Story About Love') - and at once a reference to the 19th-century Russian psychiatrist S.S. Korsakov's account of 'unstable personalities' in his 1893 Kurs psikhiatrii, a source in Chekhov's library. In this chapter I demonstrate that the personality of Chekhov's distinctive heroine - about whom much as been written - is informed by Korsakov's account of 'psychopathic constitutions' (personality disorders in modern parlance. en
