Abstract:
This paper (title translated: 'Chekhov's Depictions of Faith as Saving Illusion and Fatal Deception')contrasts the faith of Chekhov's despotic believers with that of his good-hearted faithful, and demonstrates how in different expressions, the psychological experience of believers is a fulfillment of desire, in keeping with Freud's interpretation of faith as illusion.
