Abstract:
Maths Concepts is a theorised and research informed literacy resource providing support for the development of mathematical language and concepts within 'story' based text. It permits flexible use within wither the maths or literacy programme and complements the core currriculm. The texts are leveled for independent or guided learner access and there is a oral and visual component as well as a full teacher handbook. It was trialled in New Zealand and Canada and has been in use in both countries. It is currently being adapted for digital use in New Zealand and to match 'Wilkie Maths' a supplementary programme in junior classrooms in New Zealand and to meet the new core standards in the USA. Publishers Pearson Education has entered into a conjoint project with their American counterparts to make the resource available on the American market. They inform us that the resource is currently available in up to 60 New Zealand schools. I
