Abstract:
Executive Summary In November 2007, a revised national curriculum was launched in New Zealand. The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) (Ministry of Education, 2007) replaced the previous series of curriculum statements developed during the 1990s which were the focus of a curriculum stock-take between 2000 and 2002. It was developed through a lengthy and inclusive development process that involved participants from a wide range of stakeholder groups. This report summarises a national evaluation of the implementation of that curriculum undertaken by researchers at the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland for the Ministry of Education. The project, called MECI (Monitoring and Evaluating Curriculum Implementation) sought to establish a national picture of implementation progress in English-medium state and state-integrated schools in the first two years following the curriculum’s launch.
