Abstract:
Published in a leading journal of molecular ecology, this article was an invited review of the advances in use of molecular tools to detect illegal trade and regulate legal trade in wildlife and fisheries. Times Cited: 24 (from Web of Science).I wrote the review, including review of literature on the extent of illegal trade and the conventions intended to regulate trade. I include reviews of trade in elephant ivory and shark fins, as well as my own research on whalemeat trade as examples of the application of molecular tools to wildlife forensics, as well as the larger problem of unregulated (but not necessarily illegal) trade ‘bush meat’ and fisheries ‘bycatch’.
