Abstract:
This paper examines the search behaviors of translation students when it comes to seeking and retrieving translation-related information on the Web. In doing so, I will address both methodological and didactic aspects of translation process-oriented research. Based on an overview of data-collection methods and tools previously used in translation process research, I will describe the research approach, methods, and design of my study and analyze in detail the main advantages and disadvantages of the tools that I used for collecting, processing, and analyzing data on subjects’ online search behaviors for translation. Finally, using the results of my investigation as a case study, I will discuss how findings from process-oriented research can be used for teaching purposes. As some translation scholars have pointed out, while the body of translation process research is already significant, not enough work has been done on the actual ways in which findings can be applied to translator training. This paper will therefore explore different ways of using process research methods and tools in the translation classroom as a means to raise students’ awareness about translation.
