Abstract:
This book is about why and how teachers can realistically create and construct conditions that provide opportunities for each student's oral language development. A pilot research study underpinned the book contents, also drawing on a comprehensive literature review and the writer's own classroom-based practice and expertise. Within a research framework, it is a practical journey towards optimised language engagement and contribution by each member of the classroom community The book has become core reading for New Zealand teachers in oral language pedagogy and has served to foreground educational attention to expanding oral language in the classroom, To date, 861 copies have been sold, 72 internationally. There have been four reprints. To the author’s knowledge through personal communication with lecturers, it is a text used as part of two post graduate papers internationally: Education Research Institute, Melbourne University (Dr Janet Scull) and Monterey Institute of International Studies, Canada (Professor Leo van Lier).
