Dynamic Exergy Plots Using Exergy Factor

Abstract

Since the eco-efficiency of all industrial processes/plants has become more and more important, engineers need to find a way to integrate control loop configuration and measurements of eco-efficiency. The exergy eco-efficiency factor，a new measure of ecoefficiency for control loop configuration has been developed. The exergy eco-efficiency factor is based on the thermodynamic concept of exergy which can be used to analyze a process in terms of its efficiency. But dynamic simulation and dynamic total exergies in and out variation versus time is required to validate the exergy eco-efficiency factor which increases a computational load on practicing process engineers during early process design stages. In this paper a new concept of exergy factor is proposed to minimise this computational load. Energy variation versus time can be converted into dynamic exergy variation by using exergy factor. The exergy factor is implemented in a process simulation case study and the reliability of the proposed method is validated by comparing two different exergy calculation method (with and without exergy factor) results.
