Abstract:
Due to the highly ambiguous quality of sounds used in electroacoustic music, a common problem occurs when the composer wishes to clearly communicate his or her intentions to the audience. I have thus chosen to employ semantic language in order to enhance the communicability of meaning to the audience. The methodology of my research consists of an in-depth analysis of a master work of narrative-based electroacoustic music, as well as a questionnaire-based analysis of my own work. All of the listeners from the discussion group responded to the narrative/spoken language in my piece. The composer’s intention can be effectively communicated through the precise selection of words and paralanguage, which serve to affect the listeners emotionally.
