Abstract:
This research explores Pacific regionalism within the South Pacific during the 1970s and 1980s and argues that the Pacific Way is rooted in a colonial construction of regionalism. The first chapter shall discuss the nuanced understandings of the Pacific Way. The second chapter shall explore the establishment of the University of the South Pacific as an important regional institution. The final chapter will explore the emergence of a South Pacific literature movement during this period, as an example of an indigenous grassroots movement.
