Abstract:
This thesis would not have been possible without the support of my supervisor, Camia Young. Her guidance, support, feedback and advice have been exceptional and invaluable. She challenged, encouraged, and motivated me to preserve when obstacles arose, believing in my abilities, and giving me the confidence to complete this research. Her support in helping to refine the final document is also greatly appreciated. Appreciation is also expressed to the other staff in the School of Architecture and Planning who have supported and inspired me throughout the process, sharing their knowledge, ideas and experiences which have had a positive influence on my writing, research and university journey so far. I would also like to sincerely thank my fellow colleagues from the ‘Future Christchurch Thesis Group’ who have participated in this research. I am very grateful to representatives of Christchurch local government bodies and community organisations who voluntarily gave up their valuable time to talk with us. Without their willingness to participate, the rich insights included in this research would not have been brought to my attention.
