Abstract:
The issues covered in this article arose from a feasibility study carried out by NZCER in 1997 on whether assessment resources for the English curriculum could be written and published on the NZCER Assessment Resource Bank web site. The content of this article, which was beyond the requirements of the feasibility study, provides a descriptive analysis of the present New Zealand English curriculum framework, some of its antecedents, and difficulties. Implications for teaching practice are left for the reader to develop.
