Abstract:
The aim of this dissertation is to provide up to date information in the fitting of orthokeratology and keratoconic contact lenses. It will present clinical case reports and current research on the fitting of these specialty contact lenses. The dissertation details three case reports on complex specialty contact lens fits and concludes with a literature review. The first case report is a series of cases on the fitting of a special type of orthokeratology contact lens for astigmatic corneal profiles. The report demonstrates the level of success to be expected for toric cornea’s of varying degrees. The second and third case reports detail the successful fitting of keratoconic cornea’s with hybrid and semi-scleral contact lenses. The dissertation concludes with a literature review challenging the use of conventional rigid gas permeable contact lenses as a first choice for the fitting of keratoconic corneas by supporting the use of hybrid and semi-scleral lenses.
