dc.description.abstract The cost-effectiveness of hip replacement surgery has long been established, however cost-effectiveness of particular prosthetics is still a growing area in New Zealand and worldwide. The primary objective is to undertake an economic evaluation, in the form of a Markov Decision Model, of various prosthetics used in primary hip replacement surgery at Auckland District Health Board. The model took into account various parameter uncertainty with the hope of providing probabilistic results. The results showed that the chosen prosthetic combinations, had differing incremental cost effective ratios as dictated by primarily by age group. The model highlighted the need for improvements in parameter uncertainty and greater access to individual level outcomes. en
