Abstract:
This thesis aim to improve the sub- scale of positive perfectionism based on the dual model of perfectionism which suggested by Slade and Owens (1998). The thesis included two studies. Study 1 investigated the construct of the positive perfectionism using a sample of 349 undergraduate students. After new positive perfectionism sub-scale was extracted, further factor analysis was applied on it. Two sub-positive perfectionism scales were merged according to the orientation of the reinforcement. They are Positive Auto-self Reinforcement Perfectionism (AR+) and Positive Other-social Reinforcement Perfectionism (SR+). The results verified that reinforcement theory can explain the perfectionism behaviour according to both reinforcement contingency and reinforcement properties. Study 2 analysed how the levels of AR+, SR+ and P+ differed between students and elite athletes by adding a sample of 26 outstanding Karate athletes. The results of Study 2 suggested compare with SR+, AR+ could be better predictor for positive outcomes of athletes.
