Abstract:
Italy has to face many challenges related to the economic crisis and the related unemployment, in order to boost competitiveness. The recovery of parts of the cities and their conversion following sustainable principles could be a response to the challenges of the current economic crisis and a rise of economy towards a sustainable development of the territories. From this point of view, GBC Italy has directed its efforts towards the definition of the protocol GBC Quartieri, which promotes the creation of healthy, safe and sustainable neighbourhoods, redeveloping or building compact areas connected both to their internal and surrounding reality. The application of the principles suggested by the protocol to the Rovezzano district in Florence can make it an example of a high-sustainable neighbourhood if compared to other case studies in Italy and in Europe, through the redevelopment of the neighborhood itself, especially in public spaces, in the Lungarno and in their interconnections.
