Abstract:
Proposed as an approach to promote intermediate and advanced EFL learners’ academic oral proficiency development, question-driven group discussion(QDGD)and its effects were investigated based on a self-built corpus in this study. For the convenience of bilingual data analysis, the communication strategy(CS)framework was reconstructed, and the existent fluency measurements were adjusted. Independent-samples t tests indicated that QDGD significantly helped EFL learners improve their academic L2 oral fluency in terms of the Mean Length of Run,Non-Repeated Words and the T-units output. It was also found that QDGD helped L2 learners reduce their dependence on CSs,particularly on L1-based strategies.
