Abstract:
A systematic research on the numerical dynamic modelling with FLAC is carried out for the purpose of investigating the influence of the nonlinear behavior of the soil and the soil-structure interaction on the dynamic response of the soil-structure system. The nonlinear behavior of the soil is characterized by the Pender model while the behavior of the structure is considered linear.
Firstly, the performance of FLAC in the dynamic analysis is studied. Details of FLAC
have been investigated to make the dynamic modelling more reliable and realistic. The
numerical distortion problem in the nonlinear dynamic analysis is demonstrated and has been specifically addressed.
Secondly, numerical analyses are undertaken to investigate the influence of the soil
nonlinearity on the dynamic compliance of a rigid footing resting on the surface of a
nonlinear homogeneous half space under three different types of vibrations, i.e. vertical,
horizontal and rocking vibration. The parametric analysis is carried out to study the influence of the characteristics of the sinusoidal excitation.
