dc.description.abstract An article on the Marquesas Islands appeareared in The Scotsman on 24th February, 1964. It portrayed the history of European contact with the islands in a sinister manner. It also made quite serious allegations against the missionaries, both Evangelical and Roman Catholic, connected with the Marquesas. One accusation was that the London Missionary Society raised money by exhibiting a Marquesan male in London at twopence a time. However, although the article was written in a sensational way, it aroused my interest in the missionary history of the Marquesas. en
