Abstract:
This project developed a greater understanding of African women’s (including women from a refugee background) experiences of motherhood in New Zealand. The research focused on the mothers’ lived experiences, their perception of any differences between how they fulfill their role of mothering in New Zealand, compared to Africa. With Auckland’s increasing diversity we believe this research is important for new migrant and refugee background community organisational leadership, schools, policy purposes and for increasing understanding of mainstream and agencies providing services to new migrant and refugee background communities.
