Abstract:
The question that drove this research was; ‘What are young women’s meanings of participating in dance wellness classes?’ This study examined four young women’s reflections of participating in dance wellness classes in Auckland, New Zealand. The study aimed to gain understandings of young women’s personal motivations to engage in these classes. This research was conducted within a phenomenological framework and valued the stories and experiences collected through semi-structured interviews. Constructivism established an epistemological framework for this research, and gave value to my voice in the collection and analysis process. The study found that young women’s motivation to participate in dance wellness classes was to socialise with friends and have fun while being active.
