Abstract:
LuxCity, was the opening event in collaboration with Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) in 2012. In a single night the City of Light attracted 30,000 people to re-occupy the vacant city centre of Christchurch. It was the first project behind the fences of the seismic `Red Zone`. Studio[]Christchurch worked closely with local bars, restaurants and clubs to create temporary sculptural venues on demolished building sites. For one night the 24 hour operating giant demotion machinery turned around to raise the installations of 350 architecture and design students from throughout New Zealand. LuxCity was both a proposal for the future and an instant realisation of urbanity.
