Abstract:
This research examines material stock control with a view to determining whether building construction firms comply with standard material stock control procedure in their operations as well as assessing the impact of non-compliance by construction firms with standard procedure for material stock control on building project delivery. Data were collected with the aid of well –structured questionnaire administered on a number of construction professionals in some randomly selected building construction firms in South Western Nigeria. The data generated were further analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study showed that the recognition of standard material stock control procedure and implementation of the strategies by building construction firms would ensure timely project execution and standard work delivery within reasonable cost, time and quality. Based on the findings, it was recommended that there should be a proper planning of material stock control right from inception of construction process and it should be practiced on all sites and by all categories of building construction firms in strict compliance with the recognized procedure.
