Special issue: Contemporary Art, identities and legacies of the Pacific

Abstract

This special issue brings together papers from the international conference Pacifique(S), which coincided with the opening of Pacifique(S) Contemporain, a major curatorial project that featured thirteen contemporary Māori and Pacific artists exhibiting across nine galleries, museum and public spaces in Le Havre and Rouen in Normandy, France in November 2015. Co-curated by Jacqueline Charles-Rault, Director of the Cultural Service at University of Le Havre Normandy, and Pacific art historian Caroline Vercoe from the University of Auckland, the exhibitions and performances explored notions of Place in relation to the Ocean, History and Diaspora.
