Abstract:
The role of academic librarians is evolving from one of service providers to one of educators who are actively involved in academic class teaching and curricular design. This new role requires librarians to be equipped with teaching skills, curriculum design expertise, as well as knowledge and skills of curriculum integration. A research project conducted at the University of Auckland indicated that many of its librarians felt unprepared for this new role, lacking the pedagogic knowledge and skills in curriculum design and integration of information literacy. This chapter explains two staff development programs offered at the University of Auckland: Presenter Training program and Curriculum Integration of Academic and Information Literacy program. The key elements of both of these programs are explained, and overall outcomes discussed.
