dc.description.abstract This thesis is a Manifesto written for the future generation of Pasifika architecture students, to help them navigate through their development in the architectural degrees and profession. It pursues the idea of pacific architectural practice through the production of a revised architecture curriculum, a model for Pacific practice and principles, and an exploration into material engagement. Theresearch component of this thesis critiques the current perceptions of the Pacific, and the current culture within the architectural academy and profession. In order to change these, the research stemmed into the broader areas of practice, pedagogy and the Pacific. The design response to the research used reflection-in-action to respond to the constant shifts in direction occurring through the process of pursing the pacific practice. The core of the thesis has been distilled into a manifesto statement composed of eleven points that speak directly to Pasifika students. By bringing these ideas together, this thesis advocates for a new critical lens in the field of architecture benefiting New Zealand’s unique social fabric. en
