Abstract:
The Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide has a chapter that examines how to create an inclusive environment to cater for learner diversity. It is stated in the chapter that “with changes in social policies and demographic structure of Hong Kong, importance is attached to the diversity of children at schools and in the community” (Curriculum Development Council, 2017, p. 76). In light of the Curriculum Guide’s aspirations, this keynote presentation will discuss some of the ideas in the document regarding the notion of ‘learner diversity’, and highlight the importance and benefits of constructing an inclusive learning environment for children. This presentation will also examine ways to apply recommendations from the Curriculum Guide to create responsive and inclusive teaching strategies that “allow children to develop their strengths and unleash their potential” (Curriculum Development Council, 2017, p. 76).
