Abstract:
The emergence of micro perspective and the prevalence of multi-level modeling have advanced multi-level research and relevant theory building in the domain of strategic human resource management. Building on extant literature, we clarified the construct of human resource management system and the relationship between the components, distinguished the different levels of human resource management system, and illustrated the applicability of multi-level modeling in human resource management system research and its contribution to theory building. Based on the necessity of multilevel research in human resource management system, contrasting with the measurement rules in multi-level and human resource system research, we synthesized the measurement practices in extant human resource management system research with multi-level methods and illustrated potential problems in the concrete operation. Integrating the problems in existing empirical studies, we provided considerable implications for future research.
