Abstract:
Unlike other instrumentalists who often spend hours playing long notes, pianists can make a sound by simply pushing down a key. Therefore, often insufficient time is spent on tonal production. The exercises described in this book are intended to develop a coordinated technique in which the arm and body connect together as part of the playing apparatus. These very basic exercises cover many of the movements we use in playing the piano and their purpose is to establish a freedom in the arm and wrist while playing. They are also intended as a means of establishing an injury-preventative technique.
Fit 4 Piano is a user-friendly resource which demystifies piano technique by describing the most important movements needed in order to play well. While not a method, the exercises in this book help to establish a technique which coordinates the whole body and helps to resolve playing related tension. More than 80 HD video demonstrations and musical examples show how these exercises are relevant whether playing the easiest pieces or advanced repertoire. The movements are further described with colourful illustrations. Videos can be viewed on smartphones or tablets by scanning the QR codes in the book.
