Abstract:
This workshop presents challenges and opportunities afforded by a face-to-face and online, or blended, course designed to develop knowledge and skills for frontline and midlevel managers in human service organisations. The purpose of the workshop is to describe how course aims and learning objectives advanced organisational leadership and management skills. The workshop draws from a graduate (later postgraduate) course first offered in 2005 which connects academic knowledge with workplace realities. The workshop demonstrates the benefits of a constructive alliance between an educational designer and an academic course director. An environment developed in which the demands of leading and managing human service workers benefitted from pedagogical expertise and academic knowledge. Lessons from that journey provide useful tools to advance professional programmes designed for practitioners.
