Abstract:
Gait is known to be the chief indicator of the general health of a person. Analysis of varying gait patterns provides insight into falls. Shuffling is common among elderly people and those affected by neurological disorders. Gait constituting shuffles is one of the main causes of falls among people with Dementia and Parkinson's disease. Scrutinizing gait abnormality and identifying the differences between normal and atypical gaits will help in undertaking precautionary measures to reduce the occurrence of falls. Hence the main objective of this research is to develop and implement an algorithm for recognizing and differentiating normal and shuffling gaits.
