Abstract:
This thesis examines the use of linear prediction in determining the vocal-tract area-function from an analysis of the voiced speech signal. Emphasis is given to the problems associated with the analysis of high pitch vocalisations. Multi-pulse LPC is presented as a solution to some of these problems, provided that an accurate estimate of the glottal excitation is available. A procedure known as recursive multi-pulse LPC is proposed as a possible alternative to multi-pulse LPC in cases where an estimate of the glottal excitation is not available.
