Abstract:
In this chapter the editors provide a brief history of music education in New Zealand, its links to the British educational system, and its more recent radical changes within the wider influence of neoliberal political policies. The national curricular structures for curriculum and assessment are also outlined so any references to these in the chapters can be understood, as well as the general changes to the content, assessment, and pedagogy adopted by music teachers in the secondary school system.
