Abstract:
This thesis describes the results of a geophysical study of the western part of the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ) in the central North Island, New Zealand. The geophysical study used mainly the magnetic method and included low level (800±100 m a.s.l) aeromagnetic surveying (a total of about 1800 km new flight lines over about 1500 km2 area were surveyed during this study) and paleomagnetic studies of the volcanic rocks from surface outcrops (a total of 25 sampling sites). In addition, gravity surveys (a total of 67 new gravity stations) were also made along a few selected profiles.
