Abstract:
Music Therapy New Zealand (MThNZ) undertook a survey in 2016 to gather data about current music therapy provision in New Zealand (NZ). The aim was to inform a MThNZ Council1 strategy to support job creation and the development of music therapy. This article describes the rationale for the survey, the method used, and an overview of the results, focusing specifically on the practice of music therapy in NZ. The invitation to complete the survey was sent out to all New Zealand Registered Music Therapists (RMTh) and a 37.33% response rate was achieved. This survey comes 8 years after a remuneration survey undertaken in 2008 and is a somewhat overdue investigation of the working conditions and variety of music therapy practice in NZ.
