dc.description.abstract Frustrated Lewis Pair (FLP)-catalysed hydrogenation has emerged as a rapidly growing field of research in main-group chemistry. Most FLPs have been demonstrated as effective catalysts in molecular solvents. However, the use of ionic liquid solvents for FLP-catalysed reactions is not common. In this project, the effect of ionic liquids on FLP-catalysed hydrogenation reactions was investigated. Three borane derivatives were synthesised and characterized. Unfortunately, on storage, it was found that most of the boranes were contaminated by moisture. After extensive troubleshooting, it was found that the water contamination happened in the most unlikely place — the glovebox.....
