© 2021 The Author(s) The authors regret that they wish to correct the statement “only 15 % [of missing persons] were not found (9 %) or not reported (6 %)”. This statement is only correct in respect of the distance from drowning incident to body recovery, not the time last seen to body recovery. The corrected statement is that “only 9 % of missing persons in this study were never found. Time last seen to body recovery was not reported in 1 % of cases, and distance from drowning incident to body recovery not reported in 6 % of cases”. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
