The popularity that resilience has gained in studies related to the built environment has not been achieved without the generation of confusion and vagueness that question and challenge the future usefulness and relevance of the term. However, the topic is very relevant in the forecasting of future scenarios where cities will need to keep on dealing with the impact of climate change. The present chapter looks at the theory of resilience to provide a better understanding of what it is and how it can be useful in the analysis of built environments. A series of hypotheses are derived from the studies in ecological resilience and implemented in the analysis of three case studies. |
