dc.description.abstract	The group of studies embodied in this thesis embraces various aspects of vulcanise at ack land. It Is based on detailed napping of 200 square sites of territory in the neighbourhood of Auckland City, on elucidation of volcanic patterns from field study and free examination of airphetographs and on petrographic work. A geological map on a scale of IQ chain to the inch, prepared as an ancillary project is deposited in the Department of Geology, University of Auckland, as are largo collection of specimens, this sections and photograph. The report erst be considered as a progress one as several years work remains to be done before the field may be considered to be adequately described.
