dc.description.abstract This paper addresses the development of practical partner selection schemes for a chip-interleaved virtual multiple-input-single-out (CIvMISO) cooperative system in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The whole system is assumed to work with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels subject to frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. A number of optimal partner selection methods have already been introduced for various cooperative diversity techniques in the existing literature. However, when using these methods, a source node has to pick its cooperating partner node by computing the precise resulted energy savings, which is not desirable for energy-constrained WSN systems. Consequently, we aim to find simple and reliable partner selection heuristics that are suitable for practical WSN systems in this paper. Matlab evaluation of the performance of proposed schemes is provided. Results indicate that the developed partner selection schemes are robust and computationally efficient, which could be easily implemented to WSNs to effectively improve the energy efficiency.
