dc.description.abstract Acoustic practice in relation to the built environment has always existed as a highly technical, controlled adjustment to an established architectural space. Sound design as a sensual consideration often does not play a role in the formation of said architectural environment unless there is a relation to the field of musical performance. When people experience architectural environments, the psychological impression of such in the brain is a result of perception through the body, the vessel by which we experience the world. Via the information carried in sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, the character of place and the physical universe is realized in the mind. Utilising modern sound design technology and digital systems, this thesis envisions how the implementation of spatial acoustic augmentation could alter and enhance this subconscious perception of space.
