Abstract:
Similar to terrestrial biomes the marine domain has large areas with similar plant life forms. One of these is the seagrass biome. Seagrasses are flowering plants adapted to live in submerged coastal areas of tropical and temperate regions. Analogous to terrestrial biomes, seagrass provides feeding, breeding, and nesting habitats to associated fauna. It plays an important role in coastal environmental and ecological stability. However, the disturbance from human activities and natural disasters can accelerate seagrass loss. With the current awareness of the importance of seagrass biome, many conservation measures have been taken to protect it.
