Abstract:
The three phases of the TransAcquisition method are described with reference to the study undertaken in the Māori kura. Phase 1 has three main strategies – skim-reading, word-surfing and dialoguing. Phase 2 comprises three task sequences – reading, retelling and revoicing. Phase 3 occurs alongside Phase 2’s tasks and involves student reflection. Extensive literature about flexible bilingualism supports the strategies employed in the three phases.
